Math or Finance major?

Rufus Plough: major in Mathematics minor in Finance.

Patrick Bitsui: Finance, clearly. Math is only good if you plan on teaching one day, or you're going to get your MBA anyway, but with Finance, you can come right out of college and earn big bucks.P.S. No you can't work at an Engineering firm with a math degree. That doesn't teach you ANY of the other stuff required to work at an Engineering firm (Calculus based physics, chemistry, autocad, etc)....Show more

Isreal Kochheiser: My answer isn't going to win me a Best Answer award. This is just an observation. The sister of a friend of mine has a Masters in Mathematics and was teaching in my high school. She was earning a typical teacher's salary. Some @$$h0le kids pushed her down a long flight of stairs, injuring her. She quit teaching and went to work for Eastman Kodak. She tripled her salary that first year. She had no engineering classes or a minor in business in her degree. She went there to do pur! e math for them. I suppose you degree is what you make of it and how well you interview. A minor in business would include accounting classes. Mine did. Good luck...Show more

Eva Lichlyter: Math major, you could go into teaching or working in an engineering firm. Finance, you could become a CPA or a lawyer or work for a financial firm like stock brokerage (always job openings there). Finance major plus business minor equals huge income. To teach well is a gift like artists can draw and nurses can heal. Do you have that gift? If you don't you will hate the job and/or burn out quickly. Not many job opportunities these days for teaching, since teachers are being laid off all over the place. Business --- there's always job opportunities in business and you don't need a college degree to do that well. Unless you want to work for a multi-national corporation and for that you need an MBA....Show more

Carter Edstrom: There are no jobs for finance majors. if you ! want to go into the finance side of business look into majorin! g in accounting. With a bachelors degree in mathematics with a minor in business administration you probably would be able to find jobs in business and finance also. But a Business administration minor would be greatly, beneficial. If you definitely want to major in either Mathematics of Finance then it is mathematics, there are much more job opportunities for math majors and non for finance majors....Show more
