Hello Mrs Obama, Why the students have to take so much loans to pursue higher education, could it be forgiven?

Laveta Fathy: 1

Lissette Semon: well nobody told you to take the loan...or maybe you should have chose a better field to go into.....what i don't understand is how is it Obama's fault....SMDH....But you can ask the rich folks since they have al the jobs right....

Dan Seen: Why are you addressing this to Michelle Obama and not the president himself?A loan is supposed to be paid back, plain and simple. College is a personal choice and a student must therefore be able to pay for it by himself. Some people don't even think that loans should be offered for it makes it too simple when the kids are in college and instead they should be working (at least a part-time job) to pay their educationI know this sounds mean, but my mom said that "No student should be offered financial aid, including loans" because if they want to go to school they should be able to work for it. In other words "college isn't really earned unless one takes care to pay for it as well"Of course I! argued against it because the fact that a person does not have money does not make them smart enough to be in college, but yet all the rich person's kids seem to go to college even though all they do is partyStill, when the government talks about "educating our youth" it seems to only cover kindergarten thru high school seniorAnd when somebody does mention college tney say to stay motivated and educated. They never say anything about paying for it. A million and one times on public service announcements I hear people being told to "go to college and stay in college"Out on the streets I always hear one of these things regarding college1) My child isn't going to college because we can't afford it2) When I was younger I didn't go to college because I couldn't afford it3) I am not registering next semester because I can't afford it4) She was excelling in all her classes but was dropped from the roster because she could not make the payments to the cashier's officeBut yet nobod! y ever pays attention to those students who never made it to c! ollege or stopped going to college (generally even before they made sophomore status) just because they could not afford it...Show more

Shan Lanen: true that

Arlen Decorte: Given that only about 5% of the US population has a Master's degree, getting one is hardly a necessity. If you want to complain to people, don't complain to Obama and the Democrats, complain to the Republicans in the House. They're the ones trying to cut funding for higher education.

Arnette Dominici: We are importing graduates from other counties i.e. India because so many students in the US wish to major in subjects that do not lead to careers. The college subjects that are underrepresented in the US are known as the STEM subjects which are science, technology, engineering and math. Too many US students major in things such as communications, sociology, womens studies which do not lead to jobs. I would aqree with the idea of forgiving students loans in the areas that are of need in! the country such as the STEM subjects. But if a student wants to major in a subject that does not lead to a job he should pay for it himself. By the way, Mrs Obama cannot change this herself. Her husband is trying to make some changes, but they do not include differences by area studied....Show more

Warren Kotter: It's a fact that USA is falling behind other nations in numbers of young people currently going to college. Especially, we need more graduates in the science and engineering careers. The USA used to be known as the "Land of Opportunity", and our public schools educated the poor, so they could achieve upward mobility. If you have been paying attention to recent studies released by CBO, you'd understand that the most wealthy people in USA have increased their wealth (income) by over 300 percent in past 30 years.Whereas the middle class income has gone up around 30% or so, after taxes, compared to 30 yrs ago.Growing income disparity, makes the USA the worse ! industrialized nation in the world, worse than communist China even."Wh! y more college loans? To uplift those who cannot afford them, to give more opportunity to those who cannot afford to pay rising costs of college tuition. College tuition has been going up even faster than yearly inflation. It used to be that a high school graduation was all one needed to achieve the American Dream. Today, the standards are higher, there are more tech jobs, more require computer programming, or more knowledge of chemistry, and mathematics. There will always be a need for non-college educated labor, but for our nation to stay ahead of other industrialized nations, we have to continually educate our labor force and the citizens who will provide the wealth for their grand children's future.Sorry that you do not understand this relationship between education and progress. It's called investing in our future. A nation's infrastructure and wealth is based on the total knowledge acquired by it's people. Most loans will be paid back twice. First by the student hi! mself, and secondly by receiving more taxes over a lifetime of earning more income. Finally, we all benefit by the labor, inventions, and achievements of college graduates....Show more
