Wilfred Santacruce: Don't, it's a horrible job. It's too much paperwork. If you can switch to another job, I highly recommend it. Special education is horrible in the US. The curriculum is water-down and doesn't help special-needs students learn the skills to compensate for their disability.
Lester Haschke: If you want to help people from bullying students with special needs, then I suggest you become a school counselor, which would in most states require you to become a teacher first. As a special ed. teacher, you won't have much contact with the regular ed. students who are probably the ones doing the bullying. If you worked as a regular education teacher, you could hopefully make sure at least the students in your classes were taught that it is inappropriate to bully anyone whether or not they are special needs. To find teacher salaries, go to your school website, click on human resources, then salaries. You want the one for teachers, sometimes termed "prof! essionals" as opposed to the teacher assistants. They will list the current year's salary scale. Typically requirements are a four year teaching degree. For a school counselor most states require a teaching degree, experience and a master's degree. Google it to find your state's requirements or ask your school counselor or principal....Show more
