relative dating and radiometric dating?

Cliff Jacoby: You often can't use absolute dating. Even when you can, it still makes sense to use all available dating methods, most of which will still be relative ones. If six different lines of dating evidence all point to much the same age, than you've got an excellent basis for assuming that age is correct.

Ismael Sixon: Well they are for different purposes. Relative dating can be used in determining what layers of rock are similar age to another. Fossils groups can correlate a layer in rock with another layer far away. It is for simple field work, whereas radiometric is more complicated. I think it would be like saying why write on paper with a pen when you can use a word processor (which can edit and customize text).
